New Designs
Though Frances specialises in the ancient art of leaded light work, her unique designs are both contemporary and traditional, and have been commissioned for ecclesiastical institutions (e.g. Outwell Methodists Church), public /commercial settings (e.g. Holt Country Park, Hopton Primary School, Edith Cavell Hospital), and domestic properties.

Working closely with the client this
covers site visits, initial design work, translation into glass, andinstallation
of the completed project.

Some of her most inspired work
has been in the production of special commemorative designs (e.g. see Edith Cavell Hospital ; Outwell in the gallery) where the spiritof the individual has been carefully reflected in the panels.

Educational work
Educational work ranges from teaching students the art of Stained Glass and making their own designs, to introductory sessions covering the concept of glass and light and associated art based activities on this theme, plus talks on the subject to various groups, and work as an ‘artist in residence'.

Educational: Hopton First School, Norfolk

Frances has taught students from reception class (e.g.Sheringham Primary, Hopton Primary), through to adults, and currently works with special needs students as part of their school curriculum.

Students as young as 7 have produced real stained glass panels. (see Hopton student pix) whilst more senior students have followed a given theme to make individual panels that form part of GCSE assessments and cover all the practical considerations of glass design .

All educational projects can be tailored to suit requirements. As well as working in educational settings she can offer individual or group lessons to adults on request.

Restoration Projects.
Work ranges from restoring old panels for domestic properties to much larger church projects ( see Suffield Church) . This time consuming work is undertaken with
care and close reference to and use of original
materials where possible.

  • Using painting and staining processes old designs can also be recreated (see medieval roundel)
  • Old glass panels can also be transformed into a new design if desired.

One-off Mixed Media designs.
Creations are part of a collaborative process. Some projects can be seen here. ( e.g. table, candle lit face in hands, clock).

Work Ethos
With a strong environmental background, an appreciation of natural surrounds is often apparent in her designs. As far as possible waste of materials is kept to a minimum and glass is re-used or recycled. Though her work can be found in various parts of the UK she prefers to work locally thereby reducing transport and carbon emissions.

Design Ethos
The design itself is crucial to all of Frances ' work, where she prefers to utilise the flowing lines and unique qualities of the glass itself with the lead forming an integral part of the overall effect. Painting, staining and other techniques (both traditional and modern)
are incorporated judiciously.
